Wallace Smith, Lindsay Mendez and Celisse Henderson have joined previously announced star Hunter Parrish in the cast of the upcoming revival of Godspell. Performances begin October 13 with opening night set for November 7 at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Daniel Goldstein directs.
Smith, who will take on the role of Judas, has appeared on Broadway in American Idiot, Ragtime, The Lion King and Hair. He has also toured with Miss Saigon. Mendez's Broadway credits include Everyday Rapture and Grease. She has appeared off-Broadway in The Marvelous Wonderettes. Godspell marks the Broadway debut for Henderson, who has toured with Wicked and appeared in the Carnegie Hall presentation of Jerry Springer: The Opera.
The cast also features Telly Leung, Uzo Aduba, Nick Blaemire and Morgan James.
The revival marks the first Broadway production of Godspell since its original run transferred from off-Broadway to Broadway over 30 years ago, closing at the Ambassador Theatre on September 4, 1977 after 527 performances. A 1973 feature film version starred Victor Garber as Jesus. The show's signature song "Day By Day" reached #13 on the Billboard Top 100 list.
